“Sweeter than a rice cake”- Rihanna.
Her current relationship with Chris Brown appeared to be happy in photos and tweets. However, Karrueche Tran received CONSTANT backlash EVERY day via her twitter and Instagram (which comments were horrible) with being compared to Rihanna and their disapproval of her and Chris's relationship. It’s like the girl could never live. She had to be “a secure woman”, as Draya from BBWLA referred to her in a recent interview with the Breakfast Club, because it has to sometimes be unbearable to deal with that EVERY day.
The grenade pins began to fly when Rihanna’s interview with Oprah aired in August. As if speculation of them seeing each other again was not already suspected through song lyrics, Rihanna professed in front of MILLIONS of viewers that she still loved him [Chris Brown]. Love is Love, but being that she is the ex girlfriend and Karreuche is the current, it was a “YIKES” moment. The dagger was dug deep into Rueche’s heart as tons of ppl flooded her mentions on twitter with hurtful comments. It wasn’t long, that slowly but surely, tweets here and there would take place with Chris and Rihanna. However, keeping her peace and not saying a word, Karrueche stayed by her man. THEN, last month at the MTV Video Music Awards, Rihanna receives an award and comes off stage only to kiss hug and kiss Chris Brown in the mouth. Twist the dagger a lil deeper.
Fast forward to present day, where every blog headline is displaying Chris Brown creeping with Rihanna, while current girlfriend Karrueche was nowhere in the vacinity. Not only were they staying in the same hotel, they were photo’d together at the Jay-Z concert, as well as in a trendy NYC club. If anyone paid attention to the tweets between Brown and Rueche’ this week.. one would have suspected that trouble was near:

Many say that Karrueche should be happy from what she got out of the relationship: fame, clothes, cars, etc. In a nutshell, they felt she should be happy that she went from a broke unknown girl to a common name with a come up. I found that hard to believe (especially the “broke” part) since her profession is modeling and was determined to find out more about her. To my surprise, the internet was pretty much dry on info about Karrueche Tran. Besides her love for food on her popular tumblr page DEDICATED solely to it, the 24-year-old only had a sheet of modeling for “Love Sicc” (a clothing brand) and Chris Brown’s “Mechanical Dummy” clothing line. Other than that, there is absolutely NO info on the girl as far as her background etc.(which may actually be a good thing). I swear we need Nardwuar to step in on this one.
Nothing is worse than having the world route for you to fail, than to actually satisfy them and… fail. And in this case, majority showed they were routing for the relationship to fail. However, I sit back and wonder. All these ppl who route for Brown and Rihanna’s relationship… do they allow their significant other to abuse them to that magnitude and still reconcile? Or better yet.. Do they feel the same way when it’s their sister or mother who endured something similar?
I have heard many say that Karrueche knew what she was getting herself into… but did she?? Prior to their relationship.. the world HATED him and showed no compassion. Rihanna dogged him in interviews, he lost endorsements, and couldn’t get support from the public at all. When things started to get slightly better, his relationship with Karrueche was revealed. She received MUCH scrutiny and was , also, marked for being “dumb” for dating a “woman beater”. Now all of a sudden, I find it VERY interesting that the same ppl who think it’s inappropriate for Jay-Z (who deems Rihanna in sort of a little sister relationship) to not necessarily show excitement at award shows when Brown is performing (or applaud for that matter) would react the same way if it was someone close to them in their family. Ohhhh.. so the tables have turned??
Ppl shun Stevie J, a man who treats his two women the way they allow and accept. Ppl thrashed Alicia Keys as a “home wrecker” for dealing with Swizz Beatz knowing he was cheating. Just a few examples to name. There were no “So what, They're in love” statements like the ones I’ve seen thrown around for this instance. It’s displayed that it is ok to accept, “forgive”, and support a celebrity who abused a woman and cheated openly on his current girlfriend. Until it hits home… then it’s NOT ok? America is an interesting place for the standards they carry. They love to see scandal and pain with other ppl… thrive on taking sides for people they don’t know .. but all of a sudden make a different set of rules when it hits home: there is no support for someone’s who has pained a loved one, there is no taking sides for ppl you DON’T know (or in some folks cases.. taking sides for people they DO know etc). Relating and getting involved in the lives of characters in a movie is one thing.. but this is REALITY. I feel bad for Miss Tran. Not only was she never given a chance for acceptance, she stayed by him even when she was being stoned everyday… and look what was returned.. Heartbreak.
Chris released a statement today, via US Weekly, stating:

Do not think for one second that I am an Anti-Chris Brown person. Far from it. I think the guy is a TALENTED artist. I purposely did NOT include my opinion on what I think of the two being together for the reason that I just wanted to shed light on another avenue that people seem to forget and put in the back of their minds: I wanted to display the inconsistency with how we view the media and ALWAYS have an opinion with what THEY should do with their situation, until the situation is in OUR home.. then the view magically changes. Be careful of the negativity you encourage with other people ... it could become YOUR reality. Won’t be so cute then will it?
