I know I promised that I’d be there And really did I ever show up?
Sean Don delivers an intense thriller visual for track ‘Ashley’ (an ode to his ex girlfriend) off his current album, Hall of Fame. This storyline, written and directed by Ellis Bahl, showcases ultimate revenge from an ex girlfriend to Sean in a series of events that will have you drawn to the vid from start to finish. They did a great job with executing the concept (and Sean’s ‘acting’ skills). Watch below::
”This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona. It’s important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they’re engaging on a regular basis.” – Kevin Allred, Doctoral student/lecturer for the Women’s Department.…
Beyonce now joins musical counterparts (husband) Jay-Z and Nas in the subjects of University courses department: Georgetown University : “Sociology of Hip Hop : Jay-Z” Harvard University : “Nasir Jones Hip Hop Fellowship” "Polarizing Beyonce" is a new course at New Jersey’s Rutgers University that will focus on her music/career by exploring American race, gender, and sexual politics while examining her control over her image and aesthetic. Her music videos and lyrics will be paired with readings of the writings from Black feminists. S.o. to theJasmineBrand for this course info on Bey. She never ceases to amaze me. I'm so proud we have a woman like her in our generation. Just Amazing. Go Mrs. Carter!
But wait... she isn't the only one who's new course was announced in the news boulevards this week.
If you sign up for the course, English 2169 at the University of Missouri, you may need to have a copy of Jay's book 'Decoded' along with the ‘Watch the Throne’ album. Professor Andrew Hobreck, who obtains a background in 20th century literature, first taught the course in Fall 2013. Due to the high demand from students, the course is most certainly being offered Fall 2014. Here’s the course description:

Welp..as this is the last Thursday in January, this concludes the Time Warp month theme of 'Feel Good' music. This particular songs makes me miss the warm weather. Anytime this came on back in the day, we were either getting into mischief.. .planning mischief...or heading to begin mischief *inserts grin emoji. In addition to that, I thought the message of the song was a graceful way to bow out of this month to transition into the next. I can't wait to share with you all next month's theme/gems. Until then, rock out to one of my fave Just Blaze productions (and Memph Bleek songs)... Everything's a go. "I'm in a class all by myself..."
A new single from Luda has hit the waves. 'Party Girls', which features Wiz Khalifa x Jeremih x Cashmere Cat, contains a revamped rendition of Aqua's 90's hit 'Barbie Girl' ..sn: I so had their album. Then I tell em good riddance...
YES. I just said last week Nick was giving me that old flavor back.. and now here she is with another crazy hot verse. While many may not know who rapper Young Thug is, I can bet they will after the extra buzz Nick’ just gave his song ‘Danny Glover’. Although, Thug recently said in COMPLEX interview.. “ If you feel that you can just come in the studio and freestyle on my song, then I’m ready to rap battle you. That’s just how I feel about it because I know I’m way harder than another rapper freestyling on my song. I don’t want them to think that they good and that they’re doing me a favor...”… I hope he doesn’t try to ‘battle’ Nicki.
I understand where he’s coming from on the ‘think they are doing him a favor’ mentality, but on the flipside, I wish new artists’ would be more humble about a major artist hopping on to remix their song. The exposure… the buzz generated… the path it opens. Appreciate it… don’t down play it. Nevertheless, turn up to the full remix below of Young Thug x Nicki Minaj ‘Danny Glover’ ::

"When hoes try to play me like Tiffany. Like Madicon , tell me find the homes, and designer stones...I want Tiffany...." (lls #Insider) During Cole's 29th birthday last night, it was announced that his label Dreamville Records signed a partnership deal with Interscope Records. In lieu of celebrating, Cole saw fit to release the 11 track mixtape, Revenge of the Dreamers, showcasing Dreamville - Cole himself, Bas, K-Quick, and Omen (featuring one of my jams 'Lit'). Sn: I like the original version of 'Crooked Smile' wayy better. Stream/Download below...

The first release from Spitta's upcoming anticipated project, The Drive-In Theatre. Nesby Phips went IN on this production (the beginning made me think of 'Creep Inn' x Ideal immediately)... *mortal kombat voice... #Fatality.
That negative attention be the reason we lose Instead of payin bills nxggas wanna buy shoes...
Last night during the 2014 Grammys, MMG decided to drop the visual for the 'Black Grammys' track off the Self Made Vol. 3 compilation album. Directed by DRE films, this visual showcases the appreciation to the fans ...accompanied by sizzled bars of course. I just want to speak on this. Last night (every year -_-), people were tweeting how 'we' really didn't win anything and were robbed from awards in certain categories (i.e. Best Rap Album etc.) News flash. The Grammys have never been about 'us' nor is it for 'us'. I wish folk would realize that. It's been evident for the longest. This is why we have our own award shows to give us the shine we deserve. It should come as NO surprise there who won certain things or who was even nominated. It's reminder songs like these with stand out artists that send a power subliminal message and in a way a will of empowerment. Just wanted to get that off my chest. Back to the music though. Watch the video below:
E-40 drops a video for his latest single, 'Episode'. The dating storyline of the visual is something we've all seen or experienced one way or another. Everyday life, B. Nice fit for the song. The Block Brochure 4, 5 & 6 is in stores now. Watch below:
Cardo laced this track for real with this smooth G production; appropriate for the track title. This will be featured on Young Diego's upcoming, American Superstar. Listen below: Sn: Ant's Baltimore accent is stupid strong in this verse...
Beautiful Cassie Ventura has now added a new venture notch on her belt (and new hair cut style); this time around as a designer. The model/singer recently collaborated with L.A. brand Young & Reckless to launch an exclusive collection of letterman jackets x t-shirts x hoodies etc. called “EN-WHY2EL-AYE” (NY to LA), which showcases graphics to incorporate hand drawn art completed by Cassie herself. The collection hits the waves on January 27th...12PM EST.
I need the strength to walk away And need not to state The issue is…that I miss you baby.
"I wanted little pieces of things in it that makes you think 'why is life full of games. I know what it's like to have my heart broken and so does the world. This video is the exact feeling of that. This video shows how love can leave you alone with a lot of time on your hands to think about the games that are played between two people in love." – Tay Walker
The video and this song is a mood changer; “brown liquor song” for sure. You may have recognized Tay Walker’s name from his songs with ‘The Internet’ (he is a vocalist and the keyboardist in the group). I couldn’t deny his voice then.. and I damn sure can’t deny it on this solo track…Major talent. The soul. The rips. The emotion. This will fall on his upcoming solo project ’25 Hours a Day’, set for release sometime during the Spring, featuring collabs with Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Syd tha Kyd, Harry Fraud and more. I’m definitely looking forward to it. In the meantime…check out his latest solo effort below:
Kanye's second collection effort for contemporary French label A.P.C (Atelier de Production et de Création) made a debut over the weekend in Paris, France. Alongside A.P.C.'s designer, Jean Touitou, Ye decided not to go the typical 'runway show' route, but rather extend an intimate presentation up-close and personal with each piece. As the models stood, Kanye went through and explained his inspiration behind the fashions. I think that's pretty dope. It allows you to step into the designer's shoes and mentally see their vision as opposed to leaving it open for interpretation. This collection is more attention grabbing than his first one with A.P.C.. Check the pics from the event below:
In 2006, the critically acclaimed (and I may personally vouch intellectually down to earth) Michael Eric Dyson released a book with the title 'Holler if You Hear Me' featuring Tupac on the cover. Now in 2014, that phrase, which is the opening track of Pac's 1993 sophomore album Strictly 4 my N.I.G.G.A.Z,has taken a new height to become the title of a Broadway play...Directed by Kenny Leon. Unlike Dyson's book, this will not be a 'biographical' story, but rather an original musical inspired by Tupac's lyrics. The Broadway musical (written by. Todd Kreidler) will use songs like 'Me Against the World', 'Keep Ya Head up' etc. to backdrop a narrative about friendship, family, revenge, change, and hope; inner city lives struggling for peace against daily challenges. While the cast has not been announced yet, the opening date has. Holler If Ya Hear Me will open June 19th at the Palace Theatre in New York. This just goes to show... great music will always live on..
”Wale... we don't see a king like this all the time..."
REVOLT TV follows DC's own Wale on his journey back to his roots in the country of Nigeria.
"The whole idea of the trip was for me to find peace within my family.. and bring peace to my family...".
While Wale is facing the trial of most celebrities... juggling his success vs 'real life', see how those within his homeland embrace him. The full documentary aired Monday, January 20th @ 10PM EST. You can catch replays of it randomly throughout the week on REVOLT. Watch the trailer below:
Sn: @ the headlining quote- That had to be absolutely humbling to hear someone from home say that to you; something you'll never forget.
From last week to now... I've traveled to Brooklyn to see Hov, Celebrated my brother's birthday in a full turn up, and traveled to lovely South Beach for a few days escaping this cold weather... (Posts may come soon ..keep a look out). To top it off, even though I'm back in the city... there's no work today due to snow. 6 day weekend.. :-) Within that frame, I had a time to reflect. 2014 started off horribly rough... but when I look back at everything, what's to complain about? I'm blessed and overly thankful. Pos vibes flowing. I'm GOOD.
This is one of my fav songs by the Clipse. Everything about it (even the vid) brings Euphoria
"Cut they eyes....we call em Samurai's.. WAHHHHH!!!"
Nothing wrong with expanding your vocabulary and knowledge of words. Who knows when you may encounter or need to use them.. Here’s the word of this week:
1. a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth.
2. a self-contradictory and false proposition.
3. any person, thing, or situation exhibiting an apparently contradictory nature.
4. an opinion or statement contrary to commonly accepted opinion.
Do you fold when the goings get tough and no one seems to have your back or do you continue to stand?
Reflect honestly on where YOU measure as a (wo)man. Are you content with your measure?
In 1983, MLK day became a holiday..although its first observance was three years later in 86. In 1994, legislation passed 'Martin Luther King Day of Service'. This day has always been said as a Day On and not a Day Off. This day of service was passed to encourage individuals to use the federal holiday as an opportunity to give back to their communities in honor of Dr. King's vision. Less talking and more action. I urge everyone to please use this day as one of productivity, even if it's just for something quick. A small act can make a huge difference.
The Cool Kids made their return back to the scene a few days ago releasing two tracks to the masses. In addition to that, they also took the opportunity to release solo efforts. Smart marketing. This groovy jam will fall on Chuck's upcoming Convertibles ... set to drop April 8th. Considering I have long legs (even with a short stature)... I can appreciate this in a whole 'nother way
Said could you be the one? That God would save my life with? ...
Self directed, JMSN drops his first visual from incomparable EP, †Pllajë† .
"This video is about the boundaries we make. We’re afraid of change. We’re afraid of anything different. Perception of how thingsnshould be, becomes our reality.
Someone once told me we see other people for their actions, and ourselves as a projection of who we wanna be. Rather than face things as a whole, we base them around ourselves. Not sayin’ this is right or wrong its just what we do.
Everyone is beautiful. We’re all afraid of things we don’t understand. So we put up a wall; a defense mechanism. We tear down things we don’t understand, as if they’re wrong. Right and wrong is relative. To each their own...
...This song is about wanting to find someone or something that could be the answer to all your problems, but questioning it; because deep down inside you know the only one that can solve the problems you have is yourself. When it comes down to it, you make the problems you have. Something is only a problem, if you decide to make it one. So you try to convince yourself that this person will be the answer, when you know deep down no one person is the answer. You feel this spark. This drug sinks in and tells you “You’re perfect right here.”, but you slowly start to realize; anywhere you are…you’re still with yourself. You can’t get away from your problems, because you make your problems. Bottom line: Things are only what you make them." - JMSN.
All aspects of this is too deep for me to even begin to type words that would really convey the feeling.
I can only hope that he does a video for Ada next...
Childish Gambino serves up a visual of a dope track and beach fun with the crew for 'The Worst Guys'. This definitely brought back great memories/vibes. 'Because the Internet' LP is available on iTunes now. Check out the vid below...
*sn: I had to revert the original post from 12/9/13 back to draft as the video was removed. However, the video is now officially released. Enjoy.
If you were a Master P/No Limit fan… you immediately recognized the title is that of his brother who passed away. In addition to that, the chorus is from P's 'Weed and Money' off the Ghetto D album (shout out to my sibling). See the correlation? Sorta similar to when Hov and Ye used ‘Otis’ as their title. Nevertheless, this cut is too hard…especially with the underlying message (WAKE UP!). I would have saved it for a Pod Post Thursday entry, but I couldn’t hold this one out. I needed to post it now. Check out TDE’s Isaiah Rashad on his latest… ‘RIP Kevin Miller’.
The Governors Ball Music Festival 2014 lineup @ Randall's Island/NYC on June 6- June 8th has arrived. Check to see who will be there below along with ticket purchasing information:
Dreamville's Bas releases a visual for smooth track 'Love Souvenir" off his recent, Quarter Water Raised Me Vol. II. Directors OG & SMFiends did a great job combining all the clips together for this vid. It came out pretty dope. Watch below:
For his current single from upcoming Banco, Sir Mike drops a unexpected swamp venture type visual to accompany the song. Nice to step out the box sometimes. *Does money dance... "I'm hangin out the fxckin limo"..
Every single time I hear this, I rap the song in its entirety with such enthusiasm like I'm performing it.... Don't pull up next to me in traffic while it's on.. so embarassing lol. All the elements just bring good vibes man. I don't think any album got as much play that summer in my car than Pilot Talk (although Ross 'Teflon Don' came really close). Spitta has been super consistent since. This one is in his top 10 songs for sure. Dope. Dope. Dope. "You're the best..... aaaarrrrouunnnddd...".
