It's 2001.  Allen Iverson is a powerhouse icon, Larry Brown is coach of the year, and the Philadelphia 76ers are in a 10-0 season so far.  Fast forward, they reach the NBA Finals to face the Los Angeles Lakers.  Game 1 held the historic Iverson step over Tyronn Lue.  That's the fluff version of this tale though.

 Comprised player interviews, media, fans, and NBA front office accounts of this particular season allow us a deeper look; a 90-Minute documentary of this unforgettable time in basketball history.

I'm sure all parties involved felt this record was going to be huge.  I mean they spent roughly $2Million dollars on the video alone.  That was A LOT during this time.  I agreed, it should have been way bigger than it was, but what didn't stick?  Unsure.  It remains an underrated jam!

{Trailer} Yo-Yo Shows off her Skills with New Cooking Show, "Downright Delicious"

Actress.  Musician.  Yolanda Whitaker, better known as OG Rapper "Yo-Yo", shares another of her talents with the world.  In "Downright Delicious", we get an intimate look of Yo-Yo whipping up some of her favorite recipes and dishes in the kitchen, in which she deems as her 'happy place'.

I'm not a fancy chef... I'm Yo-Yo from around the way who can really throw down in the kitchen.  No big fancy chef stuff!  But I promise you everything I make is downright delicious and you will always have a good time.

Rapper G Herbo Advocates for Mental Health with 'Swervin' Through Stress' Program

In lieu of the last day of Mental Health Awareness month, I spotlight another mental health program.  (Chicago, IL) Project Swish partnered with G Herbo to launch SWERVIN' THROUGH STRESS.  This program aims to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma associated with mental illness, promote x offer free non-conventional help through behavioral and emotional well-being practices, and  prevent self harm through individual education and quarantine-safe programming.  

SWERVIN' THROUGH STRESS targets African American and Hispanic males of ages 14-25 in the Chicagoland area.

On a serious note, r.i.p. to Mr. Bristal, who passed away from cancer in 2021.

Rapper Ab-Soul set to Teach an Online Writing Course

They'll never understand Herbert Anthony...

They just might now.  Well... maybe a little.  Ab-Soul is the latest legendary guest professor to lecture on Mickey Factz's Pendulum Ink Academy.  Soul-lo ho is set to discuss and share his writing process along with diving into some insight on his creative process.  The course is interactive and few participants will have the opportunity to ask him a question personally.  

Previous guest professors include Cyhi, Inspectah Deck, Che Noir, Method Man, Twista, Phonte and more. 

Michelle Obama Launches Kids' Nutrition Drink, PLEZi

First Lady- Michelle Obama has openly expressed her concern and commitment to providing healthier food options for children across the nation over the last few years.  This month, she presented a no-sugar added children's beverage.  PLEZi is said to provide a healthier alternative to (i.e.) soda, containing 75% less sugar than the average 100% fruit juices and includes fiber, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and other electrolytes.

Bag lady, in her case, is a double entendre for Ms. Badu.  The grammy award winning artist has collaborated with popular Italian fashion label, Marni, for their Fall/Winter 2023 collection.  Co-designed by Francesco Risso (Marni Creative Director) and Erykah herself, this collection is the first volume for upcoming seasons; entailing ready-to-wear clothing, shoes, and accessories.  The mashup stays true to both entities, reflecting her bold and unique style and Marni's established design. 

 

Marni x Erykah Badu will be a limited collection in select U.S. Marni boutiques, with a European launch also planned.  Her daughter Puma was snagged for modeling the eclectic threads and well you see it in their photos together... copy + paste.

 It's been a month...

I know I know, but I've had to do 50 million things (80% of them unexpected) and that took away from time to blog.  You know how life works.  Thanks for still hanging around.  Content has returned :).
