...later that cool January day, after a little shopping x eating x roaming, I headed over to the Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy exhibit. A vibrant colorful funhouse of carnival attractions stemming from the 1987 Luna Luna amusement park in Hamburg, Germany. Featured artists included Jean-Michel Basquiat, Arik Brauer, Salvador Dalí, Sonia Delaunay, Monika GilSing, Keith Haring, André Heller, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, and Kenny Scharf. In addition, there were live costumed dancers, interactives, and an overlook 'Butterfly Bar'. I was very specific with the photos I snapped here. The magic always lies in the details.
Walk through the story...
Asked a stranger to snap me in front of the impressive Louis Vuitton store front. The random/unexpected Tiffany & Co. concrete barrier was the universe giving me dap.
It's really a sight to see in person.
The statue made me think of a specific scene in Batman circa Michael Keaton. Do you know which one?
Stopped to shop.
I had the last timed ticket. An hour before closing.
On a rainy day in the summer of 1987, Luna Luna... the world's first art amusement park, opened in Hamburg, Germany.
"So how did I convince [them]? It was so simple, I can hardly believe it. I asked everyone the same questions: Have you ever been a child? Yes.
As a child, did you visit an amusement park? Yes.
Did you like it? Yes."
- Andre Heller on convincing artists to participate in Luna Luna
It was an entire wall of photos capturing the process leading up to the opening. I think it's fair to say it was well over 500.
Manfred Deix.
Nice little fun facts (and music taste) sprinkled throughout this segment.
The year of the Goats.
Sorry, I don't make the rules.
Honorable question.
If you're thinking that's what that is on the left...
you're right.
Living similar lives...
The photos do no justice to what the costumed dancers were doing.
Entertaining in every way.
A station for the babies.
I was running out of time and couldn't venture in the mirror maze :/
The 'Butterfly Bar' not only featured.. well .. a bar, but had a balcony overlook of the main attraction ground.
Udon Lab got my money once again.
The universe was really working overtime that day on me (both seen and unseen).
s.o. to Thom Yorke
By the time I touched back down...
I was greeted with the beginning hours of a snowstorm.
The day was worth it.
