*trailer added 02/27

"We just thought it'd be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy."
- Donald Glover to Vanity Fair.

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is tapping his creativity into the tv world once again.  The series idea was pitched to Atlanta writer and producer, Janine Nabers, who was on board with the modern "anti-hero story".  Swarm enlists Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah), Damson Idris (Snowfall), and singer Chloe Bailey as lead roles.  Notably, Malia Obama is apart of the writers room.

Thug Tears:: 5 Random Songs that made us Tear Up out of Nowhere

The activated eye faucets were just as random as this post.  Gospel undoubtedly is a top tear jerker, but nooooo we aren't talking about those.  We are talking about regular degulars that you would groove to on any other day.  Any other day, except the one day that the song decided to punch you in the chest.  This happened to me a couple times this year and I took it to the group chat to see if anyone else had experienced this.  The consensus was YES.  Here are our stories:

Green Eyes- Erykah Badu
Chochina Zoet:
I could add a millie Mary songs, but Erykah's Green Eyes will get my ass EVERYTIME.  At that time, the relationship (I was in) was SUPER toxic!  That song just spoke 2 my soul and described my relationship to a tee.  I think it's the last line of the song where she says you can't be what I need you to and idk why I fxck with you.  That line echoes EVERY time I hear it and the river begins to flow.

Erykah's right.  It has nothing to do with your new friend....

Taraji P. Henson's "The Boris L. Henson Foundation" offers Free Therapy for Black Americans

Not all heroes wear capes.  The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, founded by Taraji P. Henson and lead by Tracie Jade Jenkins, is a non-profit named in honor of Taraji's father, who suffered from mental illness after serving in the Vietnam War.

It's disheartening sometimes how quick mental illness is dismissed in our community and within our families.  The cycle passes on from generation to generation, resulting in many of us holding everything in to prevent a possible adverse reaction.  Often times, that seems inevitable.

"Through our partnerships, the foundation will ensure cultural competency in caring for African Americans who struggle with mental illness by providing scholarships to African-American students who seek a career in the mental health field; offer mental health services and programs to young people in urban schools; and combat recidivism within the prison system."

NY's Penn Station could possibly be getting a Roller Coaster?

via AE Superlab
New York… it just gets sweeter and sweeter here.

There have been talks of spicing up Manhattan’s world-renowned Penn Station.  It’s always uber busy (including any time I’ve been in there myself).  So busy that you may not even pay attention to how raggedy and poverty stricken the place is.  Anthony Bourdain is said to have once referred to it as ‘the bowels of New York City’.  I can see the correlation…

However, a new proposal by AE Superlabs has seemed to make way.  Referred to as ‘The Halo’, the 1200 ft. tall structure would integrate into Madison Square Garden (or Farley post office building) becoming one of the biggest and fastest tower rides in the world.  This location, which is just one block west of the station, is said to allow The Halo to offer varying degrees of intensity (i.e. thrill seeking and sightseeing) along with having 5 multi-colored rings .. representing NY’s 5 boroughs.

Their goal is to make this more than just a ride. AE Superlab has visions of making this ‘New York’s high tech version of the Eiffel Tower’.

With something as fascinating as this next to the station, the city can’t help but to be tempted to do a little tidying up of the place… right?  Let’s see how this turns out.

Remembering the Icon..... Prince.

Definition of perfectly unapologetic.  He didn’t care what you said about what he wore… who he dated... nor what kind of music he made.  He stood up for what he believed in... including his culture.  Respectively, no matter how large his elite status was nor how many blacks or non blacks were in the room, he remained an advocate for the black culture AND for himself; had his own back.  Prince.. the  perfect example of what it means to be your own individual.  On top of this… his discography.. bruh.  Without a question, he is one of the legends whose music catalog is out of this world and was an OUTSTANDING performer.  Lemme tell you this.. with the roll call list, Heaven has the best concert series EVER more than any of us could ever imagine...

I attempted to type this tribute post earlier.  I was going through it internally with an external of a stone expression.  I needed to release.  What I found was.. I can NOT type or construct written material in fresh ache.  If you all saw this original post, you would be o_o.  It was all over the place just as my emotions were.  Scattered from top to bottom.  Every single thing that came to mind about him or a memory or the reactions observed surrounding this were all typed out.  Typing frantically like a mad woman.  A woman typing through intense stings...

From someone who holds music so dear, when musicians pass that have affected my life in one way or another.. It's a pain.  I received texts/emails of ache from fam in sorrow today to add to that.  However, now that it's hours later and I've taken my antidote to non tears or feels (libations), I can type sensibly...trying to get myself together.   This is the very first artist (in adulthood) that I intentionally played their music, so close to the passing, in remembrance.  I usually have to stray away for an extended period of time. For example, MJ died.. I couldn't... and stumbled upon a band playing a tribute to where we went to 'grieve'.  Ruins.  Whitney Houston died... I would NOT listen.  I got in the car and immediately her song 'My Love is Your Love' was on.  Niagara Falls.  Nevertheless, bottle nice and cold and jams.  Today was rough before I even got the news.  This impact hit in a way that I have written in another post drafted.  I guess I should return the Prince Greatest Hits CD (custom made) that I snagged out of my brother's collection a couple years back.  If you're reading this... Forgive your kid sister.

To try and commemorate Prince on a brighter note with this lump in my throat, below are some of my favorite Prince songs and my memory/feeling that goes with them in my Time Warp segment format.  If you know Prince... you know  most of his work is difficult to find for the free; last year he removed all of his music from streaming services with the exception of Tidal..  He was about his paper when it came to his art.  Took a stand against the man.  Thankfully, I was able to pull a couple YouTube's to go with the commentary but most.. you gotta cop if you haven't heard already.

Partyman.
"Black and white! Red and green!"   Yelling that watching the original Batman (or randomly in a outburst) with Michael Keaton during the scene where it plays and the Joker (Jack Nicholson) sidekick Bob get ta dancing all wild.. along with Jack.  You know .. the museum scene?  Yea.  Favorite part of the movie.  On top of that, I partied each time I heard it (through present) outside of the movie like Patrice in the living room on Coming to America.  Instant Grooves.

Mixtape :: Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1 | Cardi B

This cover is the GOAT.

Instagram phenomenon and Love & Hip-Hop NY cast member Cardi B has showed the world she can talk shit and back it up.  In this instance, she has mentioned working on her music career and now her official project is here.  Ms. Belcalis Almanzar makes a statement of empowering women to be on boss status, handling their own business, all while keeping it sexy and sassy.  While we have the Beyonce's and Rihanna's giving us women anthems after anthems that we love, folk like myself need and appreciate when one comes through and spit that gangsta gutta like Foxy and Kim did.  We have that here with 'Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1'.  Real. Uncut. and Straight Forward.  Listen below::

SLAY :: Beyonce' releases new single/music video "FORMATION"

I like my negro nose
with Jackson 5 nostrils.

Early Saturday evening (EST) was surprisingly shut down as Beyonce released a new single/music video for 'Formation'.  Set in New Orleans, this indirect empowerment anthem features super catchy lyrics accompanied by a heavy hitting production.  Meanwhile if that and the crisp choreography isn't enough, the 'Stop Shooting Us' segment where the police put their hands up with the black kid in a black hoody dancing, congregation praising the Lord, and drowning of the police car is one intense sonic boom punch of black symbolism.  This song and video couldn't have come at a better time (personally) and even sweeter...during #BlackHistoryMonth.

Can I (Official Version) | Drake x Beyonce

Can I...
Baby....

I'm sure all remember earlier this year when a snippet of this song surfaced on the internet.  Many were anticipating Drake would release the song hours later etc. but to no avail.  Yesterday, on OVO Sound Radio/Apple Music Beats 1, OVO Co-founder El-Khatib played the official version of the track.  I gravitated to the snippet... and hearing the entire cut is no different.  It's addictive.  Short.. but listen to 'Can I' below::
