1) Freddie Gibbs & Alchemist - Alfredo

Hands down album of the year!!!! From the production, to the lyrics, the features etc, this album is a complete masterpiece!!! Every track rides. No skip album at all!! This album should easily win a Grammy for album of the year.

2) Jay Electronica - A Written Testimony

Before the Alfredo album, this was easily album of the year! From beginning to end, this album bangs! A lot of folks wasn’t pleased with the album since this was his major release & Hov was on every track so it felt like a joint album instead of a debut album. Although Hov did wash him on every song lol, it was still a great album. Jay Elec held his own & the fact he produced every track was the icing on the cake.

3) Benny The Butcher - Burden Of Proof

This album was a complete shocker! I was not expecting what I heard at all. Never been a big fan of Benny or the whole Griselda crew esp cause of their production, but to hear Benny over a new sound was great! Hit-Boy laced Benny with some amazing beats. Remove maybe 2 tracks & I would’ve put this album over Jay Elect’s. This album could also be a contender for album of the year as well.

4) T.I. - Libra

This album was another shocker. T.I albums had slightly gone down since Paper Trail. Albums after that were not good at all or mid. So to hear him over a well produced album was great! Best album he’s had since Paper Trail. Also the theme of the album was greatly executed!

5) Nas - King’s Disease

Cant say this is a great album, but a decent album. Definitely a step up from the trash album he last released with Kanye. Hit-Boy once again saved the day & gave him some great production! I think it could’ve been album of the year had Nas had more of his classic sound, but overall it was a good project.

Honorable Mentions:

Busta Rhymes- ELE 2

Moneybagg Yo - Time Served

6.  Busta Rhymes- ELE 2

You can tell Busta took his time with this album.  ELE 2 had an OG feel, but it was raw.  Very impressed.  Trevor still got it.

5.  Smoke DZA- Homegrown

I didn't hear much buzz about this tape, but it was one of the best to drop this year.  Give DZA his flowers.

4.  Playboi Carti- A Whole Lotta Red

Only Pu has seen the effect Whole Lotta Red has on me.  The what and the why.  There is no way for me to explain this.  *Blankman voice ... You wouldn't understaaaand.

3.  Larry June- Adjust to the Game

June worked OT this year with the projects, but Adjust to the Game takes the cake.  Countless gems and quotables.  'Watering My Plants' is priceless.  The thug tear I shed for the One Way sample on 'A Million Not Enough' is inevitable.  Good job Larry.

2.  Jay Electronica- A Written Testimony

I feel the same exact way as the first time, when I listen to this album.  The Overwhelming Event followed by the Ghost of Soulja Slim, for example, is just that.  Overwhelming to me, but in a good way.  Lyrically and production wise. My soul starts doing a rendition of Joaquin Phoenix' Joker step scene.  A lot of people think Hov outshined Elec, but I think he equally got his man on here.  Both did what they were supposed to do.  A Written Testimony in full feels powerful.  It is powerful.

1. Freddie Gibbs/The Alchemist- Alfredo

Alfredo deserves this number one spot.  No matter the mood, time of day or season, I can play this album all the way through.  This body of work exceeds every expectation, having every box checked.  Literally, there are no flaws on Alfredo.  Magnum Opus.

Honorable Mentions:

Bia- For Certain

Brandy- B7

Ethereal- E2

Sault- Untitled (Black Is) and (Rise)

Key Glock- Yellow Tape

These are the good things of the dreadful 2020.  We made it ya'll.  Til next time...

2021 here we go!!!
