Meet Lonnie Johnson: The Inventor of the Super Soaker Water Gun #BlackHistoryMonth

Lonnie George Johnson was born on October 6, 1949 (s.o. to my Libras) in Mobile, AL to a nurse aide and WWII veteran.  Donning a nickname of 'The Professor' during childhood, it was already written that he would be destined for great things.  In 1968, he presented a robot named "Linex" in his high school science fair where he was the only black student entered.  He won first place.

Johnson attended Tuskegee University in 1969 receiving a B.S. in mechanical engineering (1973) and a Master's degree in nuclear engineering (1975).  He worked on a variety of projects at NASA (1979- 1991) including U.S. Air Force missions.  It was during that time while working with the Air Force in 1989, that he conceived the 'Power Drencher'.  Later, he would license his invention and it would become one of the best selling toys (over $200 million) in the 1990s and BEYOND called the "Super Soaker".
