The extra day can be looked at as a beneficial one from different angles, but there is actually a science behind this. In simple terms, the Earth technically takes 365.242190 days to orbit the sun. Therefore, that number is rounded to 366 every four years to account for the time not counted in the 365 calendar year. It garnered the name 'leap' due to the fact that if your birthday falls on this day, it's skipped or rather 'leaps' to the next day. The next one occurs 2028. Make the best of this extra chance!
