Legler Regional Library, located in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL, has officially opened its first library food pantry. In partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the pantry stock offers the community a rotating consistent selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, protein, pre packaged meals and other food items to support a healthy diet. The pantry shelves also offer essential hygiene toiletries such as toothpaste and shampoo.

The pantry, which soft opened in July 2025, has launched at a crucial time as the neighborhood is considered a food desert with few walkable grocery stores.
Bringing the full service food pantry into this neighborhood is what responsive government looks like. It meets people where they are. It supports healthier outcomes for children, seniors, and working families. This partnership is a clear statement of our commitment to the west side and to the people who have always made this community strong.
