Dolcezza

Mine is a mix of albums and EPs.

5. Yachty- Let's Start Here

To know me is totally understand why this made the list.  My life in cinema is a psychological thriller, if you will.  The sounds on this one fit that... perfectly.
Favs: REACH THE SUNSHINE. THE zone~. the BLACK seminole.

4.  Spitta- Vices

I will never forget how I reacted when I first heard the second half of Black Point Boat Launch.  This is some of Harry's best production.  Add Spitta?  Chefs kiss.  It really is a vice city vibe.
Favs: '86 Testarossa, Black Point Boat Launch, Stingray

3. The Alchemist x Westside Gunn x Conway the Machine- Hall and Nash 2

I know I know.  A lot of these were already floating around years ago prior to this release.  HOWEVER, this is the official release of the original version.  Mastered and presented.  I always wait to the last day of the year to do my top albums post because you never know if someone will drop some heat.  Case and point for the last couple of years.  Many quotables here (and some of Conway's BEST rapping).  The flow over these Alchemist beats are like water.  It's been in rotation constantly since its release... just a few days ago.  And you know what?  It DESERVES to be on this list.
Favs: Michaelangelo, F**k & Get High, Hall & Nash 2

2. Travis Scott- Utopia
I want to compare this to another album, but don't want their fanbase to catch wind.  It'll remain nameless but you'll get the drift.  *Ye voice.. Stadium status.  There are very intricate details I notice in the records, on top of it being very well put together.  You can always tell when an artist really takes their time with their work.  Seeing the film that goes along with it, Circus Maximus, in theaters solidified my exact thoughts.  It FELT like a score.
Favs: FE!N, Sirens, Topia Twins, I Know?

1. Westside Gunn- And Then You Pray For Me

In any mood... sad, happy, indifferent, serious, excited and so forth... this album was my go to.  I've played this body of work more than anything else this year (and it dropped 3rd quarter).  FlyGod talk.  FlyGod art.  Perfect combination of staying true to his previous artistry, while throwing in a little trap.. a little croon... a little everything.  I absolutely just LOVE it.  Shuffle or its intended track order?  either way.  THIS is the one.
Favs: 1989, Kitchen Lights, DunnHill, Suicide in Selfridges

Honorable Mentions:

(no particular order)

Brent Faiyaz- Larger than Life
I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Brent "fan" per se, but this was a really good album.  It would've been in my top 5, but I could not figure out what number... so it's listed here.  A vibe.
(Oh and the samples!?  YES)

Boldy James- Prisoner of Circumstance
The Love We Gave?  Mannnnn.  This is one of my favorite Boldy projects.

Spitta x Jermaine Dupri- For Motivational Use Only Vol.1
Off the Lot should be in a museum.  I can't wait for Vol. 2.

Young Nudy- Gumbo
Remember when Slimeball 2 made the list?  This was THAT for me.  Pancake went Platinum on my end.

Valee x Harry Fraud- Virtuoso
Harry did it again!  They worked well together.  WTF.  Washington Wizard.  About that.
Mmhmm yep, start with those.

Alex Isley x Terrace Martin- I Left My Heart in Ladera
Man just turn it on and vibe out.  You'll get lost.  It starts off with a Sade 'Paradise' cover.  That should say enough.

Kenyon Dixon- The R&B You Love
'Good Love' is some A1 crooning right there.  Run '98 Vibes and the rest.  The album title fits this body of work perfect.

We made it through another year ya'll.  Cheers to 2024!
