The Roots Announce Concert for 30th Anniversary of "Do You Want More?!!!??!"

In lieu of their 30th "Do You Want More?!!!??!" sophomore album anniversary, the Roots surprise announced shows to celebrate.  Catch them at the Blue Note in New York City, NY on March 13, 14, and 15.   Two shows a night at 8pm and 10:30pm.

Questlove Announces Release Date for His Upcoming Book, "Hip Hop is History"

Six time Grammy-Award winning musician.  Academy-Award winning filmmaker.  New York Times Best Selling author.  Drummer of the legendary group 'The Roots'.  Musical Director for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.  It's important that I started this post with his accolades.  Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson is releasing an upcoming book that traces the perception and his personal reflection of the first 50 years of Hip-Hop.  Quest shares exclusive stories while traveling through the revolution and evolution of the mega cultural force that influences people across the globe.

And we're back.  Day 2 started off with unsaid chaos, but we ball!  Anywho, today was just as fun!  The temps were cooler than the day before, but we were prepared this time.  Let's get into the details of Day 2...

Questlove and Black Thought help kids explore the topic of Race through Music in Disney's new "Rise Up, Sing Out"

"...Not only do I think this will educate kids, but this is also a crucial tool for adults to learn"- ?uest.

Grammy award winning members of the Roots, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson and Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter, have partnered with Disney in their new musical animated children's series.. "Rise up, Sing Out".  According to Disney, the goal is to showcase an inspiring, empowering, and optimistic message to kids about race, culture, community, and celebrating differences.  It began airing on Disney+ last week.  "Together we can create such a wonderful world".  This is a great, enjoyable start of a conversation and understanding for both parties.  Watch a preview after the jump!  

Questlove's "Summer of Soul" documentary shines at Sundance

The Questlove jawn.."Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)" premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival last month and WON the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award!  This documentary, also being Questlove's directorial debut, is about the 1969 'Black Woodstock' featuring never before seen footage to include performances by: Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder etc.  Hulu and Searchlight pictures have acquired the doc, but there have not been any reports yet on release dates.  Keep a lookout for it.  

Lineup/Info :: The Roots Picnic NYC | October 1-2, 2016

Over the past nine years, the Roots Picnic has taken place in Philadelphia, PA.  After just hosting it there this past Saturday, it was announced today that the Picnic will now be taking on NYC for the very first time later this year.  Tickets go on sale Friday, June 10th @ 10AM.

The Roots release a video for ‘Understand’ from their upcoming album, And then you shoot your cousin.., which hits stores tomorrow. The irony of the title is this creative craftsmanship of an inimitable animated story line with a back drop of these lyrics.. something most people won't “understand”. DEEP in all capital letters.
