{Personal Post} PHOTOS : " Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style" Exhibit

What Misa said.

I blogged about this exhibit last month and had it made up in my mind already that I was going. New York's Museum of FIT did a terrific job showcasing the fashion and style of Hip-Hop over the last 50 years.  Upon entry, the Iconic designer Misa Hylton (photo'd above) was speaking on a rotated video in the lobby.  That confirmed what I already expected- "this is going to be fire".  Over 100 garments and accessories were featured that made statements within Hip-Hop culture.
Take a look...

The weather was unpleasant.  Cold and rainy.

This is really good water.

Cozy.

The contents of this book though!  If you love me, get me this for my Birthday or Christmas (please and thank you).

Thank You.

and Thank You.

Many may ask, "where's Aaliyah? "
They opted to show footage of her instead on the righthand side screen

MCM recruited Misa Hylton in 2018 as its Global Creative Partner.
This bustier one of her creations.

...still have that VIBE mag at the crib.

And now we enter my favorite part of the exhibit- iconic looks.  It was fun to identify some immediately, but I'll get into that...

Megan the Stallion 2022 Moschino Met Gala gown.
Doja Cat 2021 Thom Browne Video Music Awards gown.
Flo Milli 2020 Misa Hylton x Diesel PAPER magazine cover ensemble.

I chuckled a little. I remember when Silkk the Shocker wore that python suit to the American Music Awards.  The year was 1999.  Master P wore the green one.  Designer: Guy Wood of 5001 Flavors

a time.

DJ Khaled and son, Asahd, on the cover of his 2017 album... Grateful.
Another suit from 5001 Flavors.

"had to wear the dress... cause I had a stick"
Young Thug' Alessandro Trincone ensemble worn on his 2016 Jeffery mixtape cover.

I sent this one to the group chat because I knew they would guess correctly immediately.  They did.
Raekwon's jacket in the 1993 'Can it All Be So Simple' video.

(3 L to R)
Chuck D's Rapp Style denim jacket
Wu-Tang's Wu Wear "Killa Bees" shirt
the popular... Ruff Ryders jersey

If you watched, you may have also remembered this MCM outfit worn by Raekwon at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards; created by Misa Hylton.  She, also, wore the Rapp Style Public Enemy jersey in the showcase sometime in the 90s.  Do you remember who wore that Fendi coat peeking in the back?
If you guess Diddy in G.Dep's 2001 "Let's Get It" video, you're right.

Even with everything going on, Dapper Dan's mannequin stood out like a giant to me.  Very fitting.
However, tell me you're a diehard Jay fan without telling me you're a diehard Jay fan.  If you noticed something in this picture and he was the first thought, *gives dap.  I'll circle back to this...

All 5001 Flavors ensembles.

I turned around and began laughing aloud.  If you look at the top, I had that same exact House of Dereon hoodie.  It's a photo in my dorm room from 2005 or 2006 where I have it on.  NO, I'm not posting that travesty lol :)

zoomed in.

Circling back.  My initial thought was... this is the jersey that Hov wore in (proceeds to think of the Hard Knock Life tour and then the Black Album tour).  Like I KNEW Hov wore one, but could not put my finger on the exacts.  So by the description... it was confirmed that it indeed does have a Jay-Z reference.  When did he wear this one is the question?  I checked Hard Knock Life and he wore another Skins jersey.  If you have the answer, let me know!  It racked my brain.

I didn't have this specific pair of Nelly's Apple Bottom jeans, but I definitely had A pair.

Esco and Baby Phat.

There were several photos that did not make the cut for this post.  I tried my best to convey the essence of the exhibit as a whole without overload.  Thank you again to the Museum of FIT and all who contributed.  It was a pleasure!!

Time to change into my second look and jet to the next museum.  My ticket time was less than an hour away.

2 train.

I'm here!  stay tuned....
