{Trailer} SHOWTIME Presents... a Michael Jackson "Thriller" Documentary for its 40th Anniversary

There are two things in the music business: before Thriller and after Thriller.
 -Steven Ivory, Journalist

Thriller, an entity within itself.  The production, the music video/cinema, the album.  No matter what aspect of Thriller you think of, greatness is associated with each one.  Here's a commemoration in lieu of the 40th anniversary of this global phenomenon, that is the best selling album of all time, that is 34x Platinum globally.

Director Nelson George takes fans on a time travel that chronicles the making of the "Thriller" masterpiece.  Never before seen footage, exclusive interviews and much more.

Time Warp...1993: Whatzupwitu | Eddie Murphy x Michael Jackson

Circa 1993.
Ya'll remember this one!?  Aside from the song, I love Eddie and Mike's chemistry.  Each time you saw them together, you could tell they were friends in REAL life.  I'm sure this was a fun time on set.
Waaaazup...Waazzup...Whatzupwitu?

Mixtape :: Bad vs Dangerous | Michael Jackson (Chopped Not Slopped ... by. DJ Slim K)

I don't think I've ever been so ecstatic about a chopped and slopped in a while (since 'The Big Payback' by James Brown, which comes very close).

The scene.  Candles lit.. Cooking .. Windows open with the breeze from the storm..  Bass thumpin of this blasting.. and doing the Monique dance from Precious in the kitchen.
This version of 'Another Part of Me' is from another planet.  Thanks DJ Slim K.  A random find that I decided to share.  Enjoy.

Motivation Mondays :: Scream | Michael x Janet Jackson #BlackHistoryMonth

Tired of injustice.

As jacked as it sounds.
The whole system sucks.

You're selling out souls.
but I care about mine.
I've got to get stronger
and I won't give up the fight.

MJ Lives :: Listen to "InhumanNature" prod. by. Just Blaze

I had some fun.  Something to ride down the FDR to on a late night with the top down, reflecting on life.. like Rocky in that one scene after Apollo died.  Word.  My outros have outros.

You may find this beat was copped by Ludacris and made its way to his latest project, Ludaversal- on 'This Has Been My World'.  Today, Just Blaze releases this INCREDIBLE instrumental revamp of my favorite part of the song Michael Jackson's 'Human Nature'.  He shall forever live.

The Big Payback Vol. 3 | J.B. and the Soul Mates

Another Amerigo Gazaway production. The latest in his 'Soul Mates' series is a mash up of the great James Brown and various artists of our culture : Bob Marley, Nas etc.

"I'm not sure any other artist has left their imprint on popular music, especially across so many genres, as much as James Brown has. With as many of today's hit songs that were built around some sort of James Brown flip, it's almost like he had a say in what the music of future generations would sound like without even knowing it."

Amerigo has the magic touch with this craft; always well done. Peep the track list below. Check out the Godfather of Soul ,along with his guest appearances, after the jump::

1. Bob Brown- Who is Mr. Brown? (Popcorn Dub Mix) :: Bob Brown = James Brown x Bob Marley
2. Busta Brown- I Feel Good (Soul Mates Remix) :: Busta Brown = James Brown x Busta Rhymes
3. The Notorious J.B.'s - Sex Machine Gun Fun (Soul Mates Remix) :: The Notorious J.B.'s = James Brown x Notorious B.I.G
4. Mobb Brown - The G.O.D. Father of Soul Pt. III (Soul Mates Remix) :: Mobb Brown = James Brown x Mobb Deep
5. Fela Brown feat. Jeru the Damaja - Funky Black President (Soul Mates Remix) :: Fela Brown = James Brown x Fela Kuti
6. Jackson Brown - Good Rockin Robin' (Soul Mates Remix) :: Jackson Brown = James Brown x Michael Jackson
7. The Illmatics feat. James Brown - Get Up and Get Down (Soul Mates Remix) :: The Illmatics = Nas x The Dramatics (feat. James Brown)

5 Years Later.... Rest in Peace Michael Jackson.

5 years later…."Who's Bad!?"

There was a question posed by several avenues this morning… Where were you/what were you doing when Michael Jackson died? Here’s my story :

As a fresh post graduate with a bachelors degree, I was at a training for my summer job… (see how that worked then -_- lol). This lady comes out of nowhere hollering and screaming .. crying. We all tried to figure out what was going on.. she says Michael Jackson died. Meanwhile, while everyone looking at her crazy.. my heart dropped and eyes got watery immediately, but played it off. I texted my brother and he’s like ‘It’s not confirmed pal’. I felt a little better. We went down to the lobby and saw everyone staring at the TV with CNN playing. They kept showing his house… 5 minutes later.. it flashed across the screen.. Michael Jackson dead. While so many seemed unaffected my damn heart was on the floor. I tried my hardest to hold back tears because I REFUSED to cry in front of anyone. I texted all the people I know who truly loved MJ just as I did : Chris, My Dad, My Brother, and homie Brandon. Brandon was shedding tears and Chris was on the same page as me… ‘Son….’. ‘Son….’. Translating to… ‘crazy hurt let’s meet’.
It was a pretty day out weather wise. I got in the car and every single station was playing MJ. I couldn’t bear to listen to any of them and rode in silence. I mean, this man did and still does hold such a dear place in my heart. I was heartbroken and crying (not the ugly cry.. the super sad cry). I met Chris at one of our favorite water spots for a few drinks. We both had the same expression… looking pitiful with watery eyes smh.. and decided to hit the bar (I’m the most NON emotional person when a drink is present so that was the only thing to do). While walking to the bar… every single hotel we passed with a TV was showing CNN.. Michael Jackson dead . Fuck. We just walked with our heads down. Got our drinks. I think that’s when I was on Stoli hard. Ironically… As we decided to take a walk to water… we heard this band straight jamming on the front. They were playing ALL MJ songs. At first we’re like noooooo :-( we couldn’t take it but our asses can’t stray from a good boogie. Lol. The musicians were great… it was mad crowded for a week day.. everyone was celebrating the life having a good time. Dancing away. It wasn’t until the sun fully set… the band packed up… and the quiet breeze set in that.. he was gone. And there we were again on a week night.. sitting looking at the water.. pitiful. I couldn’t have spent that moment with anyone better … although I wish Brandon was there too and not alone. True MJ fans who understood.. uniting and mourning.

5 years later it’s still rough to digest. A pure heart and soul… the greatest and the best that EVER did it is gone… leaving behind an incomparable legacy that will live on forever.

Although it’s a little short of a half an hour… this mix CRANKS. Turning sadness into smiles. Enjoy!

Video : Love Never Felt So Good | Michael Jackson x Justin Timberlake

I posted this track the other week and it was removed after a few hours, which was weird since it started receiving radio play at that moment. The visual is now here! Dancing, old clips, smiles, and a good ol' time. Watch below::
Personally, it made me a little sad :-/. Real MJ fans will understand.

Love Never Felt So Good | Michael Jackson x Justin Timberlake

A new funky groove from MJ and JT. This will land on the GOAT's (rip) upcoming album, Xscape. Timbaland added a few new touches to this originally recorded and produced track by MJ and Paul Anka from 1983. Hopefully, the record company won't have this song removed from the net. Listen below::
Sidenote: It's a certain part of this track that reminds me of the 'Starlight' zone on Sonic 1. Anyone remember that or know which part I'm talking about??

Photos: American Vintage Ads reimaged with Aaliyah, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Pharrell, B.I.G., and more ...

I saw a few of these the other day, but finally got a chance to review the entire collection. Wow. French art director and designer, David Rendon, unleased his vision of re-imaged American vintage ads and marketing posters using song titles related to the music artists' in the form of a theme. The poster series is titled 'Ads Libitum'. Creativity executed to awesomeness. View below::

MJ Lives On...

I chose this song because.. well.. it’s three years later and it’s still unbelievable.  I didn’t know Mike personally but he always held a special place in my heart for his character of kindness and love.. and OUTSTANDING music.  He was a master of his craft and was not only dedicated to his work, but dedicated to helping ppl in any way.  Before I get all emotional with this post, I will just end it with this last thing.  Michael, you will forever be loved.  Still missing you- Love Your Fan(s).

Happy Birthday MJ!

I could NEVER forget MJ... and definitely not his Birthday! He was literally born one day before my Mom. Same year and all.

This is so bittersweet... his music will forever be LEGENDARY.. I only wish he was still here to enjoy it :(

On a brighter note however...

Happy Birthday MJ!  We're down here celebrating for you!  You are GREATLY missed.
*cues music...

I tried my hardest to embed the entire playlist because attempting to display all of MJs hits individually would take forever!  As you can see...it didn't work lol.  Here's the link to it:  Enjoy!  I've had it in rotation ALL day.

MJ.....Forever a LEGEND

Today marks two years….. I still can’t BELIEVE he’s gone. It hasn’t settled. I remember where I was when it happened and what I did once I found out. Me and the homie dirt ended up spending the rest of the evening at the water…in disbelief. Yes…it was that serious. He was a pertinent part of my childhood….adolescence..and adulthood. I can’t really begin to describe the impact that he had and how GREAT of an artist and person he was you can kill the accusation shit… I don’t want to hear it . Any who… you won’t find a ton of pictures of him as I normally do for tribute posts. Honestly… I get sad just seeing pictures of him.. (even his videos sometimes) One will have to suffice. His music and legacy will NEVER die. Love you Mike.
Side-Commentary: I had to randomly select which songs I was going to post (with the exception of my fav)… this man had WAYYYYYYYYYY Too many CLASSICS.

MY FAVORITE- Thriller (I know this ENTIRE dance routine like the back of my hand… #easy)_
