Pod Post Thursdays : Pharrell x Keith Sweat | Happy (ForteBowie 1988 Soul Train Edit)

I made a post last May for the song ‘Happy’. Then in June, I posted Pharrell performing ‘Happy’. Then in November, I posted the official video of ‘Happy’. Lawd, I’ve reached a fourth post about this song alone. In each post.. I went forth to explain how the song made me feel… especially in the last one. Who would have thought by reading those that the song would soon become an annoyance to me -_-. A song I held so dear soon (MONTHS after its release) became overplayed… over talked about from people all late who didn’t even mention it until the ‘wave’ hit… and more. The homie El and I were chatting about how it didn’t have the same affect to us anymore now thanks to a lot of folks ruining the true essence of the record. It happens all the time right?
Fast forward to present day. El comes through for his lil bruh bruh in the clutch and sends me this track with commentary of ‘I think someone is tryna make us like Happy again. This shit might have worked for me lol’ . I can’t possibly explain my reaction when I heard this. To make this more personal, this Keith Sweat song brings back one of my happiest memories. That was a great moment and on top of it.. this falls in the group of one of my favorite songs of all time since I was a youngin. Needless to say.. the essence of “Happy” has returned (this version only lol). The upliftment.. the smiles. There is one person I know for sure who will share my sentiments. Shoutout to you.
ForteBowie, thank you for this priceless gem... THIS. IS. FUCKING. SICK. Keep the soul train edits coming!

This song is the absolute truth. It made me think of when people ask why I won’t party etc. with them during the weekday.... “It’s a turn down for what? Nxgga, turn down cause you tired”. Ahh...Someone gets it!
On the real though, it’s super easy to get lost in the story telling/relatable (whether personal or regarding someone else) lyrics and vibed out production. The irony of this is… it can serve as both Turn up AND turn down music. Haha. It’s that dope.

You may have recognized Tay Walker’s name from his songs with ‘The Internet’ (he is a vocalist and the keyboardist in the group). I couldn’t deny his voice then.. and I damn sure can’t deny it on this solo track…Major talent. The soul. The rips. The emotion.
This will fall on his upcoming solo project ’25 Hours a Day’, set for release sometime during the Spring, featuring collabs with Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Syd tha Kyd, Harry Fraud and more. I’m definitely looking forward to it. In the meantime…check out his latest solo effort below:

I find motivation in the most random things. The first time I heard this song earlier this week, I was procrastinating on doing something. The odds of a song playing repeating the words 'Not now.. RIGHT NOW..' was definitely a message and seeped in quick. Needless to say, I got right to it. Aside from the random encouragement, this ill cut is accompanied by a hot dope visual. Whether you're working out, cleaning up the house, getting ready to head out to a party etc... make sure this one falls on the pod playlist...

This track, from his 'Quarter Water Raised Me Vol. 2', focuses on chicks and the self-explanatory title over a mesmerizing sample loop of Miguel's 'Do You'.

Pod Post Thursdays : Last Night | Sebastian Mikael x Wale

I came across this gem one evening while passing MTV Jams. From that day on, I was hooked to the track incredibly; it had to be added to the 'Pod immediately. Sebastian’s smooth serenading demands attention over the sexy ‘Nite and Day’ sampled production throughout the entire song. Adding on the super nice wordplay from Wale was the icing on the cake. Even once realizing what the song lyrics are actually conveying (lol), those elements I just mentioned take away negativity from that. I hope to hear more music from this guy soon. This video didn’t get much play on the waves {If you’ve never seen the video before, you’ll see why below}. However, although, it didn’t get much play… this one of my top fave Em cuts. The icing on the cake is the way this beat flows with a nice pair of subs in the trunk. It's crazy. I think I played this song at least 100 times the summer it dropped (2009). I was hesitant on listening to this at first, BUT I’m so glad I did. Bobby has went back to his roots.. his real LOVE music.. with this jazzy new track. And that song at the 4:39 mark… Bananas. I can’t wait to hear more.

Rad artwork and a  dope video is sure to lure me in.  The still shot of this video is what grasped my curiosity.  I’m so glad I pressed play.  Not only did I love the  simplistic idea of shorty thuggin it out in the vid mouthing the lyrics, but the song rocked.  From there, I felt it necessary to research more of Niko Is.  I came across the Chill Cosby mixtape  and gave it a spin.  Actually.. quite a few.  From start to finish… dope shit.  And the Luther Vandross sample on “Stars” is fxcking amazing.  It’s only right to download this and throw it on the pod.  Check his latest visual for track “Crazy” and stream of Chill Cosby below.

This song was chosen for two reasons.  1.  I’ve fell in love with it since the debut on this year’s Grammy Awards performance…2.  I’ve played the FULL version nearly 40 times (seriously) within the past 48 hours, which is AMAZING and I must say.. it gets better and better each time I hear it.  JT’s 20/20 experience is going to be serious problem when it drops.  Can’t wait for the Legends of the Summer concert with Hov.
